ROOTED: WOMEN IN FOOD
A market take-over featuring female artisans, chef demos, book signings, conversation and more.
Join us for Rooted: Women in Food at The Market at Pepper Place. This morning honors the women who grow, cook, craft, and inspire, as part of the Market’s month-long tribute to Women in Food, presented by Les Dames d’Escoffier. Our goal: to cultivate conversation, harvest connection, and celebrate the deep roots women have in our food system—brought to life through the pages and voices of When Southern Women Cook.
Hosted by Toni Tipton-Martin and Morgan Bolling of PBS’s Cook’s Country, the event will feature chef demos, thoughtful dialogue, book signings, and more, all surrounded by the work of female farmers, artisans, and makers. Start your Saturday grounded in community, creativity, and the women shaping the future of food.
Ticketed guests can then step inside for a special Rooted Meet & Greet—a chance to connect with the hosts, featured chefs, authors, and makers over brunch cocktails crafted by local female mixologists and bites from acclaimed Hot and Hot Fish Club. Cool off, mingle, and celebrate the women fueling our food culture.
Ticketed portion Includes all food and beverage (21+) tastings. Event is rain or shine. No refunds or exchanges. No pets allowed.

HOUSE SPECIALS: Late Summer Salads w/ Sarah Cole
Join Sarah for the very first edition of House Specials—a rotating chef series of food gatherings hosted at Okra House.
This one’s all about late summer flavor: bold, bright, a little unexpected. We’re crafting a simple, yet bold straightforward menu that highlights the abundance of the season. Think lentils with labneh and herbs, juicy melon with cucumbers and oils, a dip that’s also a salad. Crisp things, creamy things, chilled things and everything in between.
It’s more than a class, and not just a dinner. This is a behind-the-scenes seat at the kitchen table where you’ll hear the sizzle, smell the spices, and taste along the way. Ask questions if you want, or just soak it in. Then we gather for a slow, vibrant meal meant to be shared.
Spots are limited and advance payment is required to reserve.
This event is BYOB (no liquor, please! but wine and beer are welcome.)
